The Palm House

If you’d   like to go   for a walk   or sit down in a park but low temperatures hardly let you go out of the house, remember that in Poznań there is a palm house, incredible place where you can feel like in tropical jungle for very cheap money. You will find there not only a wide variety of plants impossible to be seen in our climate like for example cactuses or palms, but also parrots and fish. The building is divided in few rooms due to   different types of plants and different temperatures   that they need. There is also an exhibition of exotic fruits and a pavilion with aquariums. If you’re not a big fan of nature you can just sit down on one of the benches or in a cosy coffee bar, enjoy warmth of this place, relax and forget, at least for the moment, about jackets, gloves and winter that is coming very soon.

Gibraltar

Today I would like to tell you something about one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been to - beautiful Gibraltar. This British Overseas Territory is located on the south coast of Iberian Peninsula and has only 6,7 km2. The landscape is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar (426m high) which offers a lot of tourist attractions. There is a huge   st. Michael’s Cave with a concert hall inside, network of tunnels,   suspension bridge, medieval fortification – Moorish Castle, nature reserve where wild macaques live and, above all, amazing view on Africa. You can get on the top of the rock with a cable car, in a small bus with a   guide or on foot. At the foot of the mountain you can find more interesting places like beautiful beaches, Alameda Wildlife Park or a memorial of Władysław Sikorski on Europa Point. It’s also a big attraction just to cross the Gibraltar-Spain border what involves crossinga runway of Gibraltar’s airport.

How to warm up

The cold days have come and the flu and cold season with them. How to keep in good health when everyone aroud   is sneezing and coughing and windy and   rainy   weather makes you freeze? Besides so obvious things like wearing warm   waterproof clothes, a cap and a scarf, we   should focus on proper nutrition. In cold season it’s not only important to   be provided with vitamins   but also to keep us warm. According to Chinese medicine, we can divide food in few groups due to energy that transmits: cold, neutral or warm.  Here you have a short list of products that belong to the last one. Vegetables: pepper, chives, bean, kale, leek, onion, parsley, garlic Fruits: cherries, coconut, dried papaya, grape, lychee, pineapple, raspberry, mandarin Grains: oats, bran wheat, wheatgerms Meat: beef, chicken, fish, prawn, turkey, mutton Seeds and legumes: black bean, sesame, chestnut, lentil, walnut Herbs: anise, basil, cardamom, cloves, dill, ginger, ginseng, black pepper, cinn

British Cuisine

Nowadays  living  in any country doesn’t mean to limit only to the cuisine tipical for that region.  Everybody knows what are Spanish tapas, sushi or Chinese noodles. And there are already way too much Italian restaurants everywhere. But have you ever tried british cuisine? Or at least, have you ever heard about it? Probably not and the answer is very easy – it just doesn’t exixt. Of course english breakfast is popular all over the world, especially in popular travel destinations.  But can one dish, composed of  fried eggs, bacon, beans, sausages and toasted bread, be a sign of any specific cuisine? It’s even hard to call it a dish, just like, so popular in every take away in England, fish and chips. If we try a little bit more  we can actually find few exceptions like puddings, pies  with various stuffing and really well-prepared steaks, that seem to be tipical for Great Britain. But I don’t think it’s enough to talk about British cuisine.

Malta

Last time I told you about great opportunity to visit Valencia this autumn for a really good price. Today I would like to recomend you another destination, also available fom Poznań. Malta is an island country located in the Mediterranean Sea, 80 km south of Italy, with amazing average yearly temperature about 23 ˚ C.   Beautiful coast, clear blue sea and historical capital city attract many tourists every year. The majotity of them choose this beautiful island because of it’s pleasant Mediterranean climate, but this island has much more to offer.   Did you know, that the official language of Malta is English? What’s more, you can find there double-decker buses and left-hand traffic just like in Great Britain. That’s why there are many language schools which let you study English with native teachers with much better weather than you can finde in England. Such courses are, unfortunately, very expensive, just like plane tickets to Malta.
